About Us

PK

I’m PK, an undergraduate biology student at the University of Colorado, Boulder. I love big mountain adventures, building things no one else would want or need, and tweaking my breakfast burrito recipe closer to perfection.

I often feel the weight of too many things to do and not enough time. I constantly struggle to cram as much possible experience into the chunks of free time I can chisel from a busy schedule. A lot of time these hair-brained schemes fail and I find myself freezing and foodless, running down a mountain trail by headlamp at 1:00 AM. Or dousing my Jeep with flame retardent after my amateur wiring skills lead to an unexpected electrical fire deep in the Mojave Desert.

This whole blog is about mistakes. I’m constantly making mistakes. One after another after another.

But there’s something about recognizing a mistake— or bad idea— for what it is that gives me hope for the future. Like maybe realizing that using heavier gauge electrical wire might prevent future fires means that I’m actually coming out ahead… even while I drive 4 freezing hours back to LA with all the windows open to avoid breathing the caustic fire extinguisher dust.

I guess this blog isn’t any different. Just another bad idea I’m exorcising from my imagination by catapulting silly thoughts onto the worldwide web. But maybe that’s OK.

KIVA

Hi, my name is Kiva. I’m originally from Cambridge, MA but currently reside in Los Angeles, CA. Although the “Concrete Jungle” of LA is a far cry from Mowgli’s “natural” jungled habitat, it has sufficed *somewhat* for more urban adventures, one of which includes walking to Griffith Park from USC (blog post forthcoming).

My interests include, but are not limited to: hiking, bread-making, pickling or anything fermentation related really, philosophic conversations, mossy forests, chess, fruits and their jamming, reading, running, history (emphasis on tech and Japan), knitting, mushrooms, painting, soup, sardines, traveling, trains and bicycles, music (especially if it contains violin or cello), large bodies of water, and the color green.

My dislikes include, but are not limited to: the unnecessarily loud sound of roaring car engines that often startle both the mind and soul, small dogs (apart from Ginny), microwaves, Comcast-NBC-Universal as well as other related corporate, conglomerate, Capitalist monopolies and systems, marvel movies, football, cars with bumper stickers that read “this car hiked Mt Washington,” traffic, food waste, instant gratification, bowling, most modern technology, people who claim I am stubborn towards most modern technology, single use plastic, and Adam Levine.

If you find yourself overlapping with any (or none) of my interests/dislikes, please reach out as I not only love meeting new people, but always enjoy passionate conversations, whatever the topic.
